Skills Training Project Vanuatu

This is an overview of the results of the last on site Project Review late 2013, the size of the program is only limited by the amount of money available. We recommend carrying on with nursing scholarships, the number will increase to 7 per year with the support of Rotary Club of West Tamar. We recommend carrying on with teaching scholarships, the number will increase to 7 per year with the support of Rotary Club of West Tamar. We will monitor the students from USP, the failure rate is a concern, we recommend carrying on with sponsorships but only commit year by year. We would like to expand program into scholarships for 3 week courses at VIT. We have asked the Grass Roots Rotary Club to obtain government reports on the need for teachers and nurses so we can progress a grant application. We asked the students to email the club regularly so we can follow their progress and build up a personal relationship.

The people of the remote areas of Vanuatu are a very religious people their religion is what binds the communities. They also have a strong sense of family and a system of local chiefs to make community decisions.

Friends of Ndui Ndui

The Rotary Club of Mackay is fortunate to have the Friends of Ndui Ndui (pronounced Dwee Dwee and named after the humble ant) to work with. This group originally came from West Ambae around the Ndui Ndui area and they are working hard to improve the conditions of the people of Vanuatu. Their Christianity and sense of family values drive their considerable efforts. We would not be able to complete the projects without the help of the local people.
