The nursing course is a three year course and the college takes in 30 students a year. At the moment there are 27 third years (who will graduate at the end of 2013), 24 second years, and 22 first years. The course fees are $40,000 VT per year.
The seven students we are sponsoring are studying degree courses externally at USP. The hope is once they achieve satisfactory results the Vanuatu Government will take over the sponsorship for their final years of study. These student struggle with their studies and we are achieving about a 50% pass rate.
The VIT have 800 students and run a number of trade and business courses. The courses are two years in length and are made up of 14 core subjects. At the end of the course the students need to find an employer. With safety equipment the yearly fee per student for the course is $75,000 VT.
The course is three years long and we are sponsoring one student in year two and five students in year three. All five of our year three students have graduated in 2013. The students told us how much they appreciated the sponsorship program and what a relief it was for them not to have to work at night and study during the day to gain their degree.
On West Ambae we meet with the parents of the students we sponsored from the Londua Technical school. We paid the fees of these students to attend a hospitality course through the Vanuatu Institute of Technology
