Scholarships and Awards
University medical, pharmacy and nursing student scholarships and awards
The following scholarships are offered to medical, pharmacy and nursing students and all follow the same ethos.
Prize criteria:
The selection of Scholarship recipients will be based on an essay and an interview with a panel of representatives from the Rotary Club. The 500-word (maximum) essay, double spaced and single sided, should address the following topic:
“The Rural Universities were established with the express purpose of training graduates to be responsive to the health needs of the communities of northern Australia in the focus areas of rural and remote medicine, tropical medicine, and the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
How would the Rotary Scholarship help you demonstrate this in your future practice in your area of health?”

Scholarship awarded to two medical students in year 5 and year 6 based on a university year of June to June.
Prize: $3000 x 2 awarded in its entirety
Prize name: Rotary Club of Mackay and James Cook University Pharmacy Student Scholarship
Scholarship awarded to two pharmacy students in their final year of study at JCU Mackay Campus.
Prize: $1000 x 2 awarded in its entirety

Central Queensland University Nursing
Prize Name: Rotary Club of Mackay and Central Queensland University Nursing School Scholarship
The scholarship of $1000.00 per year is offered to nursing students undertaking their final Year of the CQU nursing course in Mackay. The Rotary Club of Mackay Nursing Scholarship is open to final-year nursing students that are valid from February until December of the Year.
These scholarships are auspiced by Rotary Club of Mackay and the funds for the scholarships are provided by the following donors:

Mackay State High School Award
An annual amount of $500 is awarded to the most outstanding student in academic and leadership’s fields by Mackay state high school. The student receives a trophy which is organised by the school and the $500.00 cash prize from Rotary Club of Mackay. The club president or their deputy is invited to the school to present the prize. The school publishes the Rotary club’s involvement in the school newsletter and on the official awards night programme.
The awards night occurs in November each year.
