National Youth Science Forum (NYSF)
The National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) is a not-for-profit organisation that runs a number of residential programs to encourage young people in their passion for science. Our programs show the students a wide variety of engaging, rewarding and inspiring study and career options available in science, technology and engineering fields. The NYSF Year 12 Program runs in January each year for students about to enter year 12, since 1984, more than 11,500 young Australians have progressed through the NYSF Year 12 Program. Rotary is the Founding Partner of NYSF and today the 21 local Rotary districts across Australia continue to conduct selections for the NYSF Year 12 Program on behalf of the NYSF.
ConocoPhillips Science Experience
It’s a fun 3 or 4 days of science activities for year 9 and 10 students. Each program is designed to provide students who have an interest in science with an opportunity to engage in a wide range of fascinating science activities under the guidance of scientists who love their work. The program takes place in over thirty-five universities and tertiary institutions. Participants perform experiments in the laboratories, meet and hear senior lecturers in the lecture theatres, attend site visits and walk around and experience what it is like to be on the campus of a university or tertiary institution.
Roadside Youth Driver Awareness (RYDA)
The RYDA Program is delivered each year to over 50,000 senior high school students from more than 650 participating schools. RYDA is a series of practical and powerful workshops for high school students that challenge students to change the way they think about road safety and lay the foundation for safe road use throughout their lives. Facilitators work with students to develop and practise personalised strategies and life skills which will help them respond positively to challenges on the road, both as drivers and highly influential passengers. RYDA is designed for 16-18 year old students who are approaching that crucial time in their lives where they start to drive independently or are travelling as passengers of novice drivers.
The Agricultural Science Technology Experience (TASTE)

The Agricultural Skills and Technology Experience (TASTE) is a program for year 10, 11 and 12 students held at Emerald Agricultural College >and Longreach Pastoral College during most school holidays. The program is designed to help young people explore the many education and career options available in rural industry. Get hands on experience at our working industry-scale properties, connect with others as interested in agriculture as you are. Develop an appreciation of the practical skills training and innovative technology that will help forge a career in agriculture, all in a fun and interactive environment. Learn how to operate agricultural machinery and equipment. Explore the science and technology behind agriculture. Feeding and managing livestock. Riding motorcycles, quad bikes and horses.
Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA)
Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA) is a Rotary District project designed to create an awareness of the role of the United Nations in mediating international issues. The purpose of MUNA is to encourage young people to learn about other nations and to understand and appreciate the workings of the United Nations while they develop debating skills and gain self confidence in public speaking. Teams of three students from Year 11 or Year 12 are preferred, but students from Year 10 may be accepted on request from schools, if space permits. The teams select a country; research its history, politics, economics, peoples, international alignment and policies in current world affairs. Having chosen a country they then debate selected resolutions from each country’s point of view in a simulated United Nations Assembly. MUNA occurs in March each year, and two students are then sponsored to attend the national MUNA titles in Canberra in August.
Rotary Adventure in Citizenship (RAIC)
RAIC is an intensive and fun filled week-long program to help prepare young adults for full participation as citizens of Australia. Each year around 35 Year 11 students (the delegates) are sent by their local Rotary clubs to Canberra. They are taken out of their comfort zones into new places, set amongst new faces and asked to do new things. For a week, RAIC puts the delegates “inside” Canberra. Run in partnership with the Parliamentary Education Office the delegates are immersed behind the scenes in Parliament House. They view Parliament in action, including the Budget speech and Question Time, meet their Federal member of parliament and Press Gallery journalists. Through role play, delegates participate in law-making debates and explore the functions of the Parliament. One of the highlights is having morning tea with the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives and most importantly.
